< PreviousHORSE PROGRESS DAYS 202318 LHydration! In 2021 the Mount Hope, Ohio local board of directors made the decision to offer free water bottles to everyone who paid to enter the grounds of the event, that could be filled any time throughout the two days with fresh ice water from several bulk tanks stationed at various strategic places. One of the strongest motivating factors for this decision was to cut down or eliminate the need for bottled water or other drinks sold in plastic or aluminum. The result was that the number of those kinds of containers was drastically cut. And the outcome, of course, was that much less rubbish was hauled to the local landfill. This factor alone, it seems, would be reason enough to pursue this kind of policy, but there are other reasons as well. The weather at Horse Progress Days, since it is held in the beginning days of July, can be brutally hot. When that happens, there is always the danger of heat exhaustion, which is best treated by drinking cold water. An added benefit for the planners was the words of affirmation from emergency medical staff when they learned of the plan, since it is believed that overheating was kept at bay by the free water. As is so often the case with good ideas that find a permanent home at Horse Progress Days, this practice has now been followed once in Southern Indiana, and will again be followed in Northern Indiana in 2023. Free water and free water bottles, what can be better than that? ✸ Please note: there will also be ice available to purchase for use in ice chests etc.Admission to the 2023 Horse Progress Days will be $15.00 per day. Children 12 and under are free when attending with an adult. Alcoholic beverages of any kind are strictly prohibited! GOLF CARTS, GATORS, and ALL SUCH VEHICLES are PROHIBITED at Horse Progress Days. There will be horse and pony powered transport available for those who have difficulty walking. The National and Local Boards of Directors of Horse Progress Days respectfully request that NO DRONES of any kind be launched from the lands where the event is being held, or from adjoining lands, for the purpose of picture taking or for any other reason with the exception of the Horse Progress Days designated official photographer. Stoltzfus It starts with a young man who has a dream. He may not even know what the dream is. First, he works away from home for an attractive salary, and then he comes home to the family dairy farm so that his brother can work away. He’s helping his dad, Floyd Bontrager, to run their farm. That’s right, the Floyd Bontrager, one of the anchors of Horse Progress Days. He’s milking cows and loving it, but then the milk price drops about $10 cwt and he looks around to see what else he can do. This farm has a very well-equipped repair shop, and it seemed to want to morph into manufacturing. Welding machines and steel fabricating equipment were no strangers here. The almost mature 19 year-old boy who was about to become a man is named Steven. What is in a name? Steven was still a wet-behind-the-ears lad when he realized that some kind of manufacturing was in his future. He had met a young lady named Lori, and they seemed to be getting along pretty well. He hadn’t asked her to marry him yet when he came up with a name for the company he was launching.
